Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Gave VM a proper blasting on Twitter for last week, basially, ripping me off after eyars of service.

Tomorrow someone is coming to fit a superhub (does it have a cape) and a Tivo box. Going from 20mb to 150mb will be nice too.

£30 a month cheaper, install fee waived and im not paying for the extra STB in the bedroom.

I decided to ditch Virgin and head back to Sky, 40mb is plenty for me and their TV is much better. This decision was based mostly on VMs appalling customer service, they were infuriating. Sky have just seemed so much more helpful and generally nice. Maybe I just got unlucky with the poor members of staff, but they are the voice/face of the company, so if VM can stick such nasty incompetent people on their phones then screw them.

of course, sky doesn't have a single bad rep.....

Out of interest, what is it that you define as 'much better'?

Namely the channel choices are better, VM is missing F1 HD and Sky Atlantic. I also prefer the user interface on Sky and it's box just seems more user friendly. As far as I understand, VMs interface hasn't been updated since it was launched, and it shows.

of course, sky doesn't have a single bad rep.....

I didn't say they hadn't, but my personal experience of Sky so far has been much better. VM has been shockingly bad.

They are both utter ***** at first level support, my partners parents got ripped off by sky overcharging for the duration of an 18 month contract and it took another 6 to get it back.

virgin, yes - customer service do need some training, they need to stop playing trash while on hold, but goto retentions and 9/10 times they will get the job done.

i've only ever had to go past them once and that was with virgin mobile when they outight lied about iphone support a few years back, quick search on linkedin to the head of CS then a week later a brand new note2 for my troubles.

Granted, I shouldn't have to go through that crap in the first place, but like everything (ocuk including) keep going untill you reach someone who seems like they give a toss then your whole experience will be better.

the lack of sky Atlantic is a pain, but i download everything the second its on in the US anyway

Ooh, I hadn't realised you couldn't get F1 HD, that is a concern!

EDIT, just seen Virgin are getting it shortly.

Is it confirmed that they will be getting it? I looked into it a few months ago and the status back in 2012 was "getting it soon" .

EDIT: This is good news for VM customers. If you're watching F1 on your HD tv, you NEED it broadcasted in HD! :p

Since im getting upgraded to from 30mb to 50mb by end of this month its not worth me phoning for an upgrade etc.

Currently pay for 30mb and free evening and weekend calls for £21 a month including line rental, first 3 months £17. Retention deal.

Well, just tried to change the email I have registered for 'my virgin media'
Spent 10mins trying to tell the guy I don't have a fault with my internet, then 10mins trying to tell him I no longer have access to the registered email.
hung up in the end, I'll speak to the much better Scottish folks in the morning :)

Why Virgin employ people who don't speak basic English is beyond me....

Anyone had trouble with virgin bb today?

We've lost the Internet all together, vm say we have no fault :/

Mine's fine, but as you haven't said where you are. If there's an area fault, then you're the first people to report it, or if there isn't, you should get a tech booked out to you to find out what the problem is.

Redditch, they said there's no technical fault in the area.

We had our old hub die last week, got the new replacement and had nothing but issues.

Tivo box is awful, slow and cumbersome menus. Really needs an upgrade.

its not awful but it could do with a update to be more snappier.

btw, i made a phone call to VM this time yesterday and got my BB upgraded from 30mb to 100mb, still has no change, would a reset of my router help?

Yes. If that doesn't sort it, I'd call them back and ask them to push through the config to your modem.

it is awful compared to sky+ hd

i've recently switched over from sky to tivo and it's like going back 10 years in time, it's well outdated.

are there any apps for tivo which work like the sky app for remote record? the tv guide is also a mess, what do you guys use? I may just keep using the sky one tbh but then i won't know what channel it is on VM

Back on now.

They phoned me back to tell me it was because they were upgrading our connection from 120 up to 152.

Thought it wasn't being rolled out until later in the year.

Upload could be better!

VM dude came, installed the new gear and I have been playing with it.

I can now get around 70Mb on my desktop (over powerline adapter to my bedroom) while getting 75Mb over wifi (living room) at the same time. Not too shabby that.
