Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I just called them. They couldn't do a deal on the 152mb so I said I am on a strict budget. So I got downgraded to 100mb which apparently will be upgraded tomorrow to 150mb for £28 a month and they chucked in a free AC Superhub :)

Did you threaten to leave? I got mine down to £29 without dropping down.

Tonight, I am signing up for the "Big Kahuna" package as I am moving into a property where I can actually get something better than 10mbit! Yay me.

Question is: Can I do any better than what they offer direct on the website? Any discount codes or the like?

Thought it worth asking before 6 months down the line someone says "oh you should have done x" :p

I can send you a referral code thing that will give us both £50 off

Still on the usual 50/3 package here.

This test was done over Wi-Fi (however not the SuperHub's Wi-Fi). I use the SuperHub's DMZ mode, Static IP services and more to enable a second router on my network. I also use the SuperHub as a Wi-Fi device, but only to connect basic devices which I don't want stealing bandwidth from the network and it is usually used for legacy devices (since I have a lot of them in my house). I sometimes skim 55Mbit on rare occasions and I sometimes skim a 3.20Mbit upload on rare occasions too, although I am very happy with my service to say the least as my household is paying for 50/3 and we're getting over what we're paying for most of the time. I've been a VM customer since 2009, so that's about 6ish years and I live in a quite rural town about 25 miles North of Manchester.

I don't think I'll upgrade to the planned 70/5 and/or 100/6 (I don't know what to believe in either of these suggestions from VM). I'll most likely skip any offered upgrades to either of these because they'll eventually start making my household pay extra. I feel the more you pay the more expectation you have in the actual service, plus I've found the consistency on my 50/3 package to be almost 99% most of the time.

Apparently VM are only concentrating on UPLOAD ONLY traffic management - in logical reason they should apply some sort of traffic management to the download speeds, but not make it too harsh. However the traffic management on the 50/3 package's upload is kinda horrible and vague in logical terms, but there isn't really much difference between the UPLOAD ONLY traffic management on the low current low-end 50/3 package and the current high-end 152/12 package. For example:

1GB - 1.35GB for the 50/3 package and 3GB at max for the 152/12 package, these traffic management policies apply between 5pm and 11pm on weekdays and on weekends they're almost all day, apart from the early hours in the morning at night. Only a 1.5GB difference between the low-end and high-end packages, tbh I don't really need faster download speeds than 100Mbit because most servers and services out there max out at about 50Mbit because of general network and internet traffic management.

Quidco and the like often have cashback. Think I got £30 or something when signed up for 100mbit.

Currently this is being offered on the TopCashBack Website

Big Kahuna Bundle: 152Mb broadband, 230+Channels & Phone (£26 a month for 9 months)
£111.10 Cashback

MyVirginMedia has been updated with when your area can expect the speed increase. Mine says by the end of February :(

NICE! Thank you! :D

You'll also get 200mb broadband instead of 152mb if you have yet to order. The Big Kahuna changed to that speed for new customers today, existing customers have to wait for the increases.

Hold on tight
Your speed boost is on the way...

Your speed upgrade will be ready to take your connection from up to 152Mbps to up to 200Mbps. It's all thanks to DOCSIS® 3 - the magic in our cables.

Look out for it between April 2016 and September 2016.

:/I also wish they would stop going on about docsis 3...

What happened to 300mb?

It was trialled but VM never said it would be part of the upgrades, news portals made the assumption from the fact it was being trialled and VM announcing a speed boost was coming.. It wouldn't surprise me if it appears in the near future as a new standalone package costing more though.

Looged into my account and it says it's ready to go.

Just had to press the order button and enter my email and that was it :D

Now just have to wait for that new config file :D

Here is the email I had seconds after ordering it via my account page.

Boo. I want my 30 second faster film downloads now!!!

Signed up for the Big Kahuna last night. Managed to get a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 for free and £115.50 cashback. Win.

Got an email from Virgin saying to sign up for a My Virgin Media account. When I try it says my details are incorrect. Do I have to wait until it's actually installed to do this or is there a problem I should be contacting them about? I have my account and area reference number in the email, it just isn't accepting them.
