Phoned virgin media yesterday.

got though to someone that knows what he is talking about

I was sick of my pings jumping about like yoyos from 70-80 to 400-500 constantly at teatime and nighttime.

Anyway the guy said i have massive pings becuse im on a DSL path : INTERLEAVED
and i needed to be changed to DSL Path : FAST

well he filed a fault with BT and BT changed my DSL Path module Line Information to FAST PATH.

Now im getting 38ms-41ms pings. Talk about AWSOMENESS.

anyway thats how my pings are now when i just tested this past hour and the lowest i have ever seen my ping was 70-80

talk about talking the **** lol

anyway happy gameing for me now hehe

How long did it take for you to get through to someone who knew what they were talking about and at what cost. VM tech support used to always be an 090 number that cost something daft like £1.30 a minute. Then you were put through to someone on the lines of Rishnal Patel who you couldnt understand

didnt take long lol ;)

0845 number i think if i can remember correctly.

just been playing on a server cod4 for 10 minutes at 31ms ping WOOHOO :)
got a 8/1 :D

just make sure that you tell them you want a fault rased with BT to change your DSL modulation path from interleaved to FAST.

and it will fix your ping, though i was told in advance that with Interleaved that it was to stabilize my connection but this past 5 hours that i have had it enabled there hasnt been a single problem with disconnection or anything :)

this is for ADSL users not CABLE. also i have phoned up loads of times in the past trying to explain this to them that i needed to be on FAST PATH but they refused to do it or didnt know what i was talking about, im glad someone managed to understand finaly what i was talking about. heh

as my old ISP pipex had awsome pings on there becuse they use fast path not interleaved. :)

Im sure the fastpath will be the same for other ADSL users on various ISPs make sure the Quickpath is set to fast and only BT or your phone provider can change that via your ISP sending a fault ticket to them for them to change it.

as for SKY i have no idea.

virgin media didnt know what fast path was ?
lol i know their staff dont get taught too well but thats pretty crap even for their standard.
btw why are you with virgin media anyway ? its their cable thats fast not their asdl.

as for changing to fast path...if your with a company such as Be* and they have unbundled in the exchange then you can just contact the isp and dont need to bother with bt...(with Be* u can change settings in ur members page).
also im not sure sky put ppl on fast path...i remember a couple of years ago a friend called them and asked to be put on fast path and they said its simply not something they do.

not sure if they have changed their ways

well i have tryed month and months ago to get them to change me from interleaved to fast path. and back then they didnt know what i was talking about.

i have wasted countless money on phoneing up and fiddleing with my modem settings to get better pings.

virgin media blamed me my pc my modem for the large pings even my house cableing aswell as telling me to run the bt.test connection site numerous times. lol

and all it took was one guy to get bt to change me from interleaved to fast to fix the issue.

Use their newsgroups, far handier and you get a response quite quickly from someone who knows what their doing.

The last time i rang i got someone who asked me to spell router.

MESSAGE FOR ViRuS2k :

Hi, I too took a switch to virginmedia and was activated on 4th June. Since then my ping has been erratic. From day 1, in evening my ping on UT2004 dropped to around 280 - 400 ... has progerssively gotten worse. In fact, now it seems from around midday to midnight that the ping is bad. I mean upto 1000+ ping. When I click refresh on server list, it varies from 88 ... 475 ...212 ....116 ... 568....352....76...119...79...438 3tc etc etc.

I too have been on phone to IT desk from day 1 ... was told same as you blah blah etc, they say there is nothing they can do ... but I was never told about FASTPATH... I am currently on INTERLEAVED .... I have heard also about setting MAX DELAY from 32 to 8 ... have you heard of this ?

I have requested to "befriend" you as I need to hopefully speak with you first before I go in with fists a flyin' to the ADSL Virgin IT desk.

You can mail me at [email protected]

Many thanks
J

oh good lord no. don't sign with virgin adsl FFS. they are one of the worst adsl isps in the country.

please research and you'll find this out for yourself. :)

is there anyone else you would recommend? i suppose i could always get the BT line on its own then go with another operator

i would love to go with be/o2 but they don't operate in my area
i can't get sky as you need sky TV which i dont want

i would go with BT but 10GB monthly usage just seems too low for even everyday use

argh, going mad here :p
