Virgin Media hosted STEAM Content server

I think you've completely missed the entire point of this thread. You want Virgin to sort the network out so you can download Steam games faster... That's what this thread is for, to get Virgin to use internal servers for Steam content which will increase speeds.

Not really... I was hoping they would sort this out quickly as steam games are about the only notable bit of downloading I do. There have been lots of complaints on their forums about steam so you'd think they would have put in an exception. I couldn't justify paying for 50mbit just to download the occasional game unhindered. :-)

And I have a reply...

Hello,

Thank you for the email to several people in the company.

We have not receive any communication from Virgin regarding content servers but we are happy to talk with them. I will post on their forum.

Kind regards,

Mike

I still think they should allow you to have a 'local' store server.

If you've got more than one pc in a house/building with Steam, it instantly makes sense. I'd much rather have my fileserver download updates for my games, then my desktop pc sync with this.

For places like game cafeterias, it would be a godsend.

On this local store, you could type in all the Steam account details that you want to save on there and tell it which games you'd like to keep up to date using it

I HAVE WANTED SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG TIME :(

I am shouting as I want that feature that much.

We're pushing this along internally at the moment and although the wheels are grinding slow they are moving. Don't worry I'm keeping a fire under people about this and as soon as I have some news I can share I'll post it here.

Thanks

Nothing they have announced.

Trying to find a person capable of handling such a suggestion was almost impossible.

The joys of big faceless organisations I guess.

I'm on Virgin's supposedly superfast optical broadband on their Large deal package and always limited by steam to a max of 1.5Mb/s (actually it went up to 2 one time about a year ago!). I've tried every setting on steam I can and it never goes up. Very frustrating.
I leave games to D/L overnight on weekdays so I can play them at the weekends.

we have a 1000mb VM connection at work, downloading games from steam at 75mb a second (no so long ago that would be faster than writing to an HD) makes the 1000mb (even if i have share it) connection home feel slow at times lol!
