Virgin Media Issues...

A friend of mine is experiencing 150+ pings to every server he joins. It is totally unplayable and he just warps around the screen.

Virgin have said their is nothing wrong with his line and that it is due to sharing the network connection through a router. Now they had a technician visit the house and he said there was nothing wrong. If my friend plugs the modem directly into his PC he still gets the same issue. The technician did a speed test and said that the download rate is fine (would have thought it would have been the upload that was causing the problem though....).

Has anyone got any ideas? Or has anyone got a decent contact for someone at Virgin for the Bury area? They keep on getting put through to indian call centres that just read off the same script EVERY time, they always get told the manager is busy and that someone will call them back (and guess what, they don't!).

Any advice/details will be thankfully received!

Damn.

with packet loss virgin will look into the line propperly, without it they just pull excuses from there behind in my experanice anyway :( dont know what to suggest. other than complaining and whinging. :( hopefully somone will have a better idea.

Tell him to ring his isp and see if they can turn interleaving off.

However 150 is quite high, can't see a hugh reduction if they do.

I have only heard interleaving talked about with ADSL etc, didn't realise it was used on cable as well. I will speak to him later and suggest it.

I had a latency / ping issue with virgin a while back. Always 100+ pings, lasted about 2 weeks, the indian call centres ALWAYS said there was nothing wrong with the line, absolutely useless... It just fixed itself in the end.
