They keep saying they will send pre paid envelope things so I can post the boxes etc back to them and they still haven't, even after reminding them.

Anyone had this?
Is there any email/phone or some thing that will get them of their lazy arse.

Or do I have a right to send them a letter demanding they pick it up within x-days otherwise I'll chuck them in the bin?

I have various bits of virgin media kit in rooms in the house I've recently moved into but I have no intention of using their service, can I just unplug everything and get rid of it?

The last time I moved out and cancelled virgin there was no mention of collecting their kit and I'm pretty sure it went in the bin after about 2 years of hanging about.

Rented or purchased?
You don't hold the contract with virgin so you have nothing to worry about. You basically rent the equipment of virgin hence they want it back.
You can certainly unplug it all, depends if its a rented property and if landlords say you can chuck it out.

They've said they are going to sort it out twice.

They can have it if they want, I just don't wont it sat round here for months. So either need a contact that will sort it out or find my rights to tell them and then chuck it out legally.

What happens if I don’t return my equipment after I cancel?

If you’re cancelling all your services with us, you’ll need to return all Virgin Media equipment otherwise you may be liable for a charge on each item.

sky is getting installed tomorrow and VM are cancelling all services on sunday.

when i handed in my notice i had to give them a contact number, i asked what for and they said to organise the return of their equipment after it had been turned off.

but i think as most people already know, they don't bother trying to get them back. i think the costs involved are so much, they would rather you binned it.

e.g. they will need to pay an engineer to test / service / refurbish the equipment before it can be used in another install.

apparently the engineers charges are very high, so they just dont bother getting them involved.

either way, i would just tell them, i am moving out of the building in the next 30 days, if you haven't picked them up by then, they shall be binned, tell them you don't have time to post them, they "have" to come and pick them up, they wont bother so you can bin them after 30 days.

Cancelled VM in Jan this year.
They arranged to pick up their gear, never showed up.
A few weeks later , they arranged another pick up at new address, never showed up.
Last week sent a text asking to send it back in a pre paid envelope. Ignored...stuff long gone, except hard drive!

Thats odd,

When we moved out of a VM area, they sent out a pre-paid box pretty quick and we had to take it to the PO and obtain proof of postage.

They were pretty quick about it. That was 2009 though lol.

I moved a year ago, they said they would send a bag or something for me to stick it in and a courier would collect.
never happened, not before we moved, and not after we moved house.
Their boxes one year later reside in the loft, in a box, should they ever want them.
They stopped responding to my emails asking when they were going to collect.

I used to collect the boxes for a living. And a pretty good one too. Mostly non payers.

I used to get £5 per box and £5 per disconnect

I cancelled last month. They sent through a set of boxes for me to put the stuff into and details of a parcel collection service that I'll need to use to return the stuff. Didn't give me any warning of what they were going to do. If they haven't contacted you, then send them a letter telling them that you'll start billing them a storage fee from a set date if they don't pick it up.

They never arrived, when they had arrange to collect my Tivo box, so I sent it back in a prepare box after 3 months of waiting.
