Hi all,

I'm After Ditching Virgin media due to the poor service & capping policy, theres a few questions i was wondering if anyone could answer for me:

Broadband installed Feb 2003 - Am i still in a contract or can i ring them up and tell them to stick their service and be contract free within 30 days or am i tied down for 12months or however long....

Does anybody know, as im moving out of the family home in june so will need to prepare to get rid.

Many thanks

According the Customer service person I spoke to last night your contract gets extended another twelve months everytime you change your services, I dropped my tv from L to M and am now according to them tied in for another year...

Did they tell you that when you went from L to M? for contract to be valid, they have to tell you at the time. & this is the first time I have ever heard such nonsense.

I hate the way that some companies do this, sometimes without informing the customer first. Had the same thing happen to us with Sky. I used my debit card for regular payments and one day the signal went down. After ringin them, i discovered that this was because the debit card that i hardly used had surpassed its expiry date so i gave them my new card details. I moved house a couple of months later and when cancelling my sky subscription i was told i had to pay for another 10 months as a new contract began when the service was reinstated. We had Sky for 10 years before this (originally i paid by direct debit) and had to kick up a very big fuss before they would cancel the contract without making further payments.

If i was in the same position with virgin i would tell them in no uncertain terms that you weren't warned about a new 12 month contract starting when you changed your service and that they have no right to do this (even if it is written in the t&c in tiny writing). Virgin's customer service, in my experience, is far better than Sky's so i shouldn't see it as a problem.

HTH
