Hi guys,

Recently i've been having some more trouble with VM with my connection being really slow/patchy even when im not capped. I can't play any online games as i get high ping whenever i use vent.

I noticed in another thread the mention of power levels and how the Downstream power level should be as close to 0 as possible? Mine is this at the moment:

Downstream Receive Power Level : 20.3 dBmV

So i'm thinking maybe that's the problem? If so, could anyone recommend what type of Attenuator i would buy to lower it?

My speedtest also seems fine, however the upload speed is normally 0.5

My pingtest shows my ping being a lot higher than normal (normally it's 10-20ms) and my jitter being even worse (jitter normally 10ms)

Also, if anyone has any ideas on what could be causing this etc please let me know.

no idea mines 0.8.

post on there newsgroups ? the techs are really good much better than phoning india or wherever, if they think you need a tehc visit they can do it via the newsgroups aswell, much less faffing about just look at other peoples posts to get an idea of what info you need to give them
If you're on Vista or Windows 7, you would use Windows Live Mail (a standard part of your system). To get on the VM Newsgroup you need to be operating through the VM broadband system.

In Windows Live Mail, you'd click the "Newsgroups" link at the bottom of the screen and then Tools/Accounts then Add/Newsgroup Account.

Give your Display Name (like A55a55in), your e-mail address then your server address for the newsgroup which is "news.virginmedia.com".

You'll then be able (via the Newsgroups menu item) to select the Virgin media icon on the left of a search panel, click on "All" and wait a few minutes till it's finished listing thousands of newsgroups.

Scroll down to "Virginmedia.support.broadband.cable" and double click it.

And you're there. You can post your stuff including any evidence you've collected.

20.3 for your downstream power level is far too high, the highest it should be is 10, but the closer to 0 you can get the better.

Mines 1.1

Post on the newsgroups and they will arrange for a engineer to visit to fix it.

Christ, that modem is gonna be struggling BIGTIME with that signal!!

As Scooby said, you need to log a call and let them deal with that - a few dB over and I'd suggest popping an attenuator in, but not 20dB over

I found an attenuator that was left by the last engi and i put that on and now i'm down to 5dB, Is this better?

I'm starting to think it's a local london issue after seeing some completes on the forums. Will go on newsgroups now.

Cheers
