Hi all,

For ages now my Virgin Media Router intermittently restarts the wireless radio part of itself, Normally when i am streaming something from iplayer or mining some ore in Eve, It happens at least once an hour and is very frustrating as i then have to wait for the Wireless Radio to turn back on and all my devices to re-connect, This is only with the Wifi, Everything wired has no issue's.

I have tried changing the channels with no luck.

I have just been on the phone to VM about it and they have advised me i need to set the router as 54Mbps as it was set at 300Mbps, Now i understand this is compatibility mode but should i really have to put up with setting the router at that speed? My other router i use as an extender has no issue's with 300Mbps but unfortunately i cannot access it in this part of the house.

I've given up on my VM router. Replaced it with a misc Gigabit TP link one.

Every 15 minutes or so, my phone/devices would disconnect from the wireless and take a minute or two to reconnect. Drove me insane, so i just bought another router.

I would ask for a replacement. Is it a Superhub of some kind? Can't say I've heard of just the wireless part of the router stopping whilst the rest motors on.

In what way was dropping to 54Mbps supposed to fix the problem?

No idea but thats what he has got me to do, I told him i have tried every possible combination but of course they have to run off their script, He sat on the phone with me for ages seeing if it will drop signal but of course it did not as it is intermittent as i kept telling him.

True it has not done it again so far but surely i should be able to set it at what ever speed i like?.

Oh and yes its a superhub.

This is really common. I've had 7 with EXACTLY the same fault. You might also notice it drops external wan ip when it does this They are keen to brush it off with utter bs like power levels too high, incompatible hardware etc. But the fact of the matter is that the VM hub 2 sucks. I fixed it easily by setting it into modem only mode and using my own router.
