Hey guys my nephew is on virgin media and it's clear his router is brutal. I was hoping you guys could suggest a router which has good coverage and easy to set up (this is important). I have no doubt that this forum will deliver as always... Merry Christmas by the way !! :)

What kind of VM service? Does he have a superhub? If so Asus RT-N56 is probably going to be the router of choice.

Draytek 2830n would be an option but Asus would be my recommendation

The Asus cable routers (RT-N56U, RT-N66U etc.) are popular and well spec'd.

The Drayteks above are for VDSL (FTTC) connections and are seriously expensive.

He has a superhub yoke. Thing is im on PlusNet ADSL and he just needs a better router. I will look into that DrayTek router. The 'superhub' is crap tbh.

£80.00 + for these routers??? Come on guys he is 13 years old and just need a decent cable router.

Apologies, you did not mention in any of your original 2 posts how old said nephew is.

What is he actually doing with the internet? How far away from router is he?
As if it is just for his xbox then maybe look into home plugs as an ethernet solution rather than a replacement router?

Give us some info :D

He is flat out using his xbox. The router has no antenna and he keeps on about the bad signal.

If it's just a console then connect using a set of Powerline adapters instead of wireless. You can usually pick a set up for about £30.

Edit: Just seen that this was already suggested. It's still a good solution to the problem.

^^ Would be probably the best solution.
Wifi should always be viewed as a last and worst case scenario, it will cut in and out as it pleases, is affected by the environment around it and does not give good gaming connection.

Powerlines aren't anywhere near as cool as wireless for a 13 year old but he'll be thanking you for years for sorting him out with them.

**FYI the superhub aerial's are built inside it, there are a lots of well documented issues arounf superhubs and their wireless capabilities, I myself was hit by it where by the wireless dropped out after 2 mins on the "n" channel and only holding stable at "b/g". I replaced for an Asus RT-N56 and STILL do not use wireless for gaming, always an ethernet if possible.
