Hi all,

Couldn't work out which forum to put this in so it's ended up here.

A quick one really, I'm not sure if I have Virgin media at my flat, the flats around me do but mine doesn't come up on their online postcode checker, and speaking to the sales team seems to provide contradictory answers. I have the following wall socket, but not sure what it is...?

Just looks like an old regular TV ariel socket to me...

TV on the left and FM on the right......

No markings of any cable provider....

That's definitely not a normal Cable TV outlet as they are surface mounted in a sloped box with the connections at the bottom pointing down (not out).

As bertles says it looks like a Satellite TV outlet that's been installed during decoration/the original build given it's unbranded, and recessed.

This assumes of course that the connections are threaded, if they are smooth it's likely a TV/FM outlet (although they are normally marked for TV/FM).

Yesss they are threaded,I am wrong. Normal ones just push in.

Try a sky box connected to them and see what happens..if you have one of course.

I know a Sky box will pick up the BBC and ITV channels, there is a Sky feed into my sons bedroom and he can watch those free channels without any Multiroom subscription.

Do you have any blank wall plates? Check behind them.

I'm in a new build flat and have no virgin plate but the wire is behind a blank for them to put their own on.

If all around you can get it ask them to send someone out and check.

I had about 4 weeks of trying to get them to come install but them saying I can't have it despite me knowing I could. They sent a guy round last week after I spoke to someone higher up and 100mb being installed Thursday.

1 sec, took a picture of my set-up when I moved into my house a few years ago. Here it is - wire just comes out of the wall, and yes, it is that length as pictured. The cable modem goes into the loose end. Not sure what that junction bit is in the middle, but I still use it.

Looks like an old sky sat lead. Being only one cable they were for old boxes that didn't have recording capabilities, which would require two cables.

tell them to send a spotter. it could be an old telewest install as thats how it looked at my old place.

a spotter can tell you 100% if you can get virgin media though and if your neighbours have it the odds are so can you but your house isn't in their outdated database

its a 2way splitter for if you get tivo etc they will just plug it into the splitter instead of adding more wires running into your property

Thanks for the replies ref splitter. I only have a cable modem, not set top box, so shall I remove the splitter and connect directly?

Can you get a close up of the splitter? it still looks wrong way around to me if you have a Cable modem attached to the end, normally the cable comes in from the junction box and goes in the side with one input and then splits into the set top box & cable modem. There looks to be a blue thing attached as well? possible signal conditioning filter? you probably don't need the splitter unless it has isolation built in.
