Hi after 11 months my Virgin Media Super Hub 2 has died. However I am awaiting a brand new like for like replacement.

My question to the wise is this.
On the old SH2 I had set up 3 networks all with MAC filtering.
Primary - for my home infrastructure, printer, wifi extenders etc
Guest 1 - for my home wireless devices
Guest 2 - for guests

Although I backed this up using the tool within the SH2, can I restore it to
a new identical SH2? I had enabled MAC filtering on all 3 networks at both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. I really don't want to think about manually entering those addresses again.

Is it really worth using MAC filtering on a home network that is used for office, e-mail, browsing and netfllix? Just how likely is it for a home network to be hacked?
Is it worth getting a separate router and putting the SH2 in to modem mode?
How easy is it for someone with little networking skills to set up?

Thanks

Pretty unlikely imo - unless you live near students who want free internet.

No. Having seen one bricked after going into modem mode and the VM techie couldn't fix it :)

Easy - but mostly as there's not a lot you can do with it.

Over complicated for a home set up tbh, I wouldn't both with MAC filtering. I don't see why you need 3 wireless networks either will an Internal and then Guest network not be enough?
