I am looking for some advice about the above, I wish to cut my very expensive Virgin Media bill by doing away with their tv package but want to keep their broadband and phone. I would then install a tv streamer package in its place, would this work. Ideally I would like to do away with the TV licence as well as it look as though we are paying a tv tax twice and have done for years. Would the streamer take the place of Virgin TV?. Many thanks for your help.

I have phone & broadband from VM with no TV at all, not a problem and of course you can use a streaming box/stick with any services like Netflix/Amazon/NowTV/iPlayer/etc.

You currently need a TV licence to watch any live broadcast TV but not catch up, so if you watch anything live on iPlayer for example, you need to have a licence, but if you only ever watch things later on catch-up or on-demand, you technically don't. Be aware that this is likely to change very soon as they're reviewing how this works.

Yeah, was about to say they dont like people avoiding TV licences and watching on catch up...they will make it so you need a licence regardless.

Next they will make it so you require a licence to watch a DVD..really wouldn't surprise me. :D

To be honest,I think VM tv is a load of crap anyway,Just repeats..and its overpriced,Considering your already paying for a TV licence anyway the extra channel content VM show isn't really worth it imo.

I plan to do away with mine when the contract ends.

I was paying £53 for 100mb phone and mid tv package. I've just ditched the TV and now pay £33 for 150mb and phone.

Netflix and a kodi box for me with no license. Job done.

Tell them you want a better deal and threaten to leave.

I ended up dropping to M TV with 150MB broadband for 20 a month in the end. Just had sky sports and movies put on for 18 on a rolling 30 day contract too, got a random call and thought it worthwhile for the end of the season!

Edit - have a phone line too, pay that yearly

For the record, I'm paying £23 for 200Mb with line rental on top of that, although I paid for my year's line rental up front at £164 which equates to about £13.67 so just under £37 total.
