Hi, was just wondering if any of you have experienced the 2mb to 10mb upgrade.

I might have to go and see a client on the weekend which would be good to advoid.

Problems is he has done the upgrade, and everything has stopped working, but virgin media say the connection is fine and saying something about a proxy issue.

Just wondering if anyone else has had problems, and if restarting something or whatever fixxed the problem.

Cheers for any help.

Make sure he doesn't have anything set manually, like DNS, Proxy and so on.
If the modem boots to a normal state it is probably a PC issue.

Might help if you mention the area and the modem type.

Watford, not sure about modem type :(

Hes got a modem then a switch/router.

Looks like virgin are trying to convince him to do a system restore which is just wrong when its the whole network not one pc.

Thinks he might have better luck calling them again must have been a muppet on the line.

Sounds as if the issue will be with his router settings.
When he went thru the 2mb > 10mb upgrade did he have an old modem that they replaced, some of the older ones wont support the newer speeds if he has replaced the modem does the router still have the correct gateway?

As any standard tech desk will do if theres any of you're equip between the router and PC they will say thats the issue and you need to work out internal workings they will normally not support 3rd party hardware.

Try the modem > Pc directly with ethernet and see if he gets webpages then.

Of course check any IP's and connection details aren't set incorrectly.
Shouldn't have any proxy server setup its a direct connection to the BB, again standard techdesk will not support this theyre there to ensure your BB is connected and working not any 3rd party servers or anything.

So standard tech desk patter...

minimum connections - Modem > Pc directly
check for static IPs/connection details and reset to defaults

once all this is done...

turn everything off then turn it back on wahey! lol

if at this poitn you can't get anything via a direct conenction to the modem using standard software at default settings then you may be able to convince them to get off their asses and fix something for a change*

*no guarantees :p
