just got one of these installed (package with 20mb broadband was ok...)

anyways.... the remote control is well..... awful !!!

dont know who designed it ... buttons out of place.... feel clunky ... and slllloowwww......

am wondering if I get a Logitech remote (not sure which model) things will improve.... ie the response speed.... even the GF moans about it !

One other thing :

recorded 2 programmes the other day .... and they pictures & sound are corrupt.... does this sometimes happen ?

faulty hard drive ? live picture is not at fault.... just wondering before giving them a ring..

NTL/Virgin boxes are just generally slow I'm afraid..the only help buying a programmable remote would be is to give you a better button layout. It's been a problem for years and I don't know why they can't get it running faster as Sky can manage it!

Can't help on the second issue sorry as I don't have a V+ box.

Cancel and get sky. Virgin media are *****. I sent them a letter before Xmas and I have had no reply. Search for my other virgin media threads to see what im on about!

Virgin media boxes are just slow by nature unfortunately. When I turn mine on from standby in the morning, I have to leave it a couple of minutes otherwise I can't change channel from what was on when it was turned off!

You will get used to the controller. I actually quite like mine now, and I find the SKy one hard to use whenever I have to use one.

I will say though that I think the TV service is pretty ****!! For a start, with Sky Sports when they have a multiscreen thing on, you can only watch screen 1 as the red button doesn't work (they blame this on Sky)

Also, as you say, it is so SLOWWWW!!!! It takes forever to change channels. I know that might seem a small thing, but when flicking through channels it is bloody annoying.

yeah may get use to it ... the reason im with them for Tv - is I got a decent deal for all 3 (tv broadband and phone...) - and the broadband is better for me.

Might keep an eye out for a Logitech anyways - Ill get use to the speed in time .... but that control... NNNNNNNoooooooooo lol

I prefer virgin over sky easily!

Virgin media has all that catch up and on demand stuff on the XXL package not sure about smaller ones? But its awesome has loads of old series on there and keeps a bunch of the popular programs for upto a week after. I dont have the v+ box so this is handy for me!

Searching through the channel guide you get a PiP so I can actually keep viewing/listening to something other than the stupid sky music.

Going through the mini guide if I press info on a different channel or later in the day it does this amazing thing, IT TELLS ME INFO ON THAT!!!! program. Not the one I am currently watching :/

Ok so you had a bad experience. I've been with NTL/Virgin for donkeys years now and their service has always been tip top. We've had a couple of major outages in that time but they've always been good at compensating (like my free upgrade to 4meg from 2meg when the service was slow in our street for a few weeks).

When I was with Sky on the other hand I had nothing but problems. A friend of mine works at the Sky Broadband call centre and you wouldn't believe some of the stories she's told me about their shocking service levels. One poor guy had to wait 6 months for his broadband to be activated due to constant screw ups by Sky!

It's the same with most things; some people will have good experiences and others bad. Unfortunately it's usually only the bad we hear about.

I have had one of the old school dark blue NTL boxes for ages, in fact I had two as my first one died. OnDemand was unbearable, the menu's took ages to load, even the TV guide. After a bit of complaining we got given one of the new silver Samsung and I have to say it's a completely different service. Everything is speedy, on demand is brilliant and i'm much happier. If you are stuck with an old blue style box make it have an 'accident' and get a newer silver one.

@ skiba I find on demand service still very poor even on samsung box so many times it comes up unavailable. @ScarySquirrel It is sky's fault they will not allow them to broadcast their interactive services so it is a sky issue.

Sky tv is better sky BB is worse sky cs and virgin cs not much in it both are aweful
