anyone experiencing issues playing youtube videos? seems to only effect youtube videos constantly buffering or failing to play. all other sites and speed tests work fine.

Ive been having some issues. It works fine on my mobile just not on desktop.

Some videos will completely buffer but will not play and just spin. yet other videos are fine. I noticed it a couple of days ago, not noticed today.

Virgin Media has suffered from issues with streaming certain types of video for years now, just check the forums... hundreds of threads complaining about how bad youtube etc is

Yeah, YouTube is sometimes rubbish.

It's much better if you can specify some different DNS servers - this bypasses the YouTube proxy servers that VM have set up.

I'm using Google's DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

This issue has been affecting certain VM customers for years.

Try Google DNS, or VPN if changing DNS makes zero difference.

Have set google dns now, did have open dns. Also flushed it, no difference.

I have a whole range of firewall fixes i've seen over the years on the vm forums.

It seems only in the past week that its started playing up. I do have a vpn sub for my phone, going to give that a go on the ol' comp.

This thread has been updated for the last couple of days with people reporting problems, hopefully it will be one of the first pages to post a fix.

Linky

Found a hand chrome extension called DotVPN, seems to work through that.

ah ha! For me at least, youtube videos load fine when not on HTML5 mode and use flash.

Check if you are using HTML5 and if you are use this extension to disable it and see if it works.

It looks like it must be problems with html5 possibly?

Is it just me or has Youtube been super slow for the past few days?

I keep thinking I must have a problem with my connection because videos on YT are not loading, or are loading at 144p, like it's 1999 or something. But iPlayer HD and Vimeo HD both seem fine. WTF?

Anyone else noticed this?

Yup for me on Virgin. Not sure if it's because we had our router replaced the other day but YouTube is just awful. Loads up on the lowest quality and sticking on any HD takes ages to buffer but once it does it plays just fine.

Virgin, 100mb package. Pingtest and tracert through command prompt seem fine (although there's the odd '*' in tracert). Speedtest.net seems fine too.

Yes! That's the exact same problem. Hmm... wonder what is causing this?

Try "Magic Actions for Youtube" addon/extension on either Firefox, Chrome or Opera, and tick "Speed Booster". It worked for me when I was using Virgin at my student place, and bypassed Virgin's odd throttling on Youtube.
