I ordered my new virgin bundle online today. . . .Xxl broadband xl tv with v+ and m phone. Was asked when i wanted install, chose friday 24th july- all good so far.

Got home today to find email stating install date 3wks later in august. No phone call or anything so called number on email- straight to some probably over qualified telephone operator in india. Guess what? His english hp terrible and he cannot change the install date at all as ordered online.

Should i stick with it? Was looking forward to a decent connection this weekend and am really hacked off now.

Before anyone flames that his english is far better than my punjab your right, but then again my company doesn't provide services to indian customers in india. . . .

Try phoning them during the day, there seems to be a cut off point when they shunt calls overseas - think it is generally around 6PM or so I've noticed whilst trying to get a billing issue sorted out.

In my experience you always get directed overseas, their customer service is absolutely shocking. xxl broadband eh? Don't expect to be able to use that speed in the day after downloading 1 gb!

I always seem to get throttling during the evenings, and I always get Welsh people when I phone them up ;)

There will be caps eventully, once it is fully rolled out. Even with caps though, they will most likely be increased proportionaly to the speed increase, so 15GB during the morning, 7.5GB during the afternoon.

If you're on the 50Mbit package what you're likely seeing is contention, not throttling.

FWIW Mine works at damn near full speed most of the time, and it has never really dipped below 35-40Mbit/sec from a good download source.

Torrents always seem to max it out pretty instantly, as does downloading from iPlayer for offline viewing.

i'm sure oversea's call centres have their place in certain industries. Would be far better if they used higher quality voip systems/protocols.

I'm sure the call earlier would have gone better had the quality been good- in both directions.

No throttling yet on xxl, i'm hoping convention will be minimal- i live in a tiny village so not many virgin customers and the phrase wired retired hasn't made it into the local dictionary.

Virgin support is f'in DIRE!

They didnt call me to tell me they'd cancelled my original install date even though they knew most of their engineers hadnt come into work because it had snowed.

Later on theyve made numerous screw ups with my billing like charging me incorrect amounts, charging me another £20 instead of crediting me £20 to make up for the original screw ups... and even selling me a contract that they werent supposed to.

Just to top it all off, they tell me theyve arranged an engineer to visit my home to check connection issues and then cancel this without telling me... I take a day off work to be at home all day when he comes and end up sitting there like a monkey waiting for him to show >.> When I did call I was told the call was closed because they had fixed the problem. A week and a half later I got an SMS message telling me theyd fixed my problem >.<

Shocking :|

Never had one issues with support really, i had a problem with my broadband yesterday phoned up at 10am and they had a engineer round before 12, he came fixed the issue its always been the same for me there support and techs are top notch.

Virgin are very hit and miss in their support - it depends what continent you get through to really.

ouch, thats quite some throttling- maybe ur the 1% of users who uses 98%of network capacity!

Cancelled orange today. Tried telling me there's a 25 quid cancellation charge! Politely told him not when i signed up (early wanadoo customer). Guy says terms and conditions say terms and conditions can change at any time. . . . Politely asked why then i'm still saying wanadoo prices and not been reduced to current prices? No answer so less than politely told him i won't be paying and have therefore cancelled DD.

Lets hope virgin aren't to bad now i've burnt bridges with supplier for last 10 years.

ah I see, I only had xl. Only time I could get my 20mb speeds was between 1 and 8am. The rest of the time it was no more than 250kbs

That's nothing to do with STM, i was on 20mb before upgrading and apart from slower speed when i was stm(5mb) i always hit my 20mb speeds no matter day or night.
