In the process of buying a property and only ever thought about using BT Infinity but when i checked virgin media today it turns out i can get up to 50MB. So i have a few questions now:

1) Are we likely to get the full 50MB or is there anyway to check how fast we could get?

2) Is there any usage limit?

3) Do they block filesharing websites like Filesonic/fileserve etc?

4) Do we still need a telephone line rental? (I think this is a no but just after confirmation)

1) Yes you will get the full 50mb
2) No, they currently do not cap or knowingly throttle 50mb tier. Atleast I think this is still the case. The other packages like 20mb/10mb do get throttled and have peak time usage restrictions.
3) No, but they do throttle peer to peer traffic as above.

2) They slow P2P and Usenet at certain times by a non-disclosed amount.
4) You dont need telephone rental but BB is discounted if you do - If you need a phone line anyways you may as well get it from them too.

2) Is there any usage limit?
Virgin operate a detrimental use policy even on 50mb lines and nasty letters get sent out if the connection is consistently 'abused' at peak times (9am - 9pm). The internet suggests the trigger is around 300GB/month
