Hi guys,

I've been with Virgin Media for my Broadband for 9 years or more now, for the past year I've been paying £36.99. Last month my bill was £45.53, and today I've been charged £50.48.

For £50.48 a month, I am on 100mb, I have a phone line (I don't use it, as I don't have a phone), and the basic TV package.

From £36.99 for several years, up to £50.48 is a big jump. Apparently I was on a new customer discount, even though I've been with them for years and years.

Do you think £50+ for 100mb broadband is a bit steep? - Apparently I can pay them £43 and get the same package but with £50mb broadband.

The main thing is that I wasn't told the price was going up, and they've taken £50+ out of my account anyway.

I've called them up and they don't to see to care, even though I've told them that I am going to look at moving ISP.

If you got any good recommendations, either to stick with Virgin, or if there are other good ISPs, please let me know. :)
 
I would say that is a bit steep, seeing as we pay £33 a month for 100mb with them. I've been with them for over 2 years now too.

It is a joke... Why are they singling me out to pay more? I don't get it. It is like they have a personal vendetta against me.
 
Have you tried calling them up to cancel to see if they offer you better deal? Explain what you've told us and say that you know people paying as little as £30 a month for 100mb, so why, after 9+ years with them, are you paying so much more? They might sort you out with a better deal.
 
It isn't cheap. Mine is 150mb broadband only and costs £46.47 pm. Fortunately my neighbour gives me £15 a month and shares the connection. I have yet to notice any slowdown for me.
 
Been with them for ages and they do the 18 month contract thing now. The first 12 months are at the "special" price of £36.99 and then the last 6 months would be at full price of £50.

I normally justify this by ending my contract after the 18 months is finished and signing a new contract via Quidco with (normally) £90 cashback..

In your face Virgin Media!
 
What annoys me is that I was charged £45.53, and today I've been charged £50.48. Why the £45.53? And why was I not even informed I was going to be charged extra than my normal pay!?

They have offered to help me on Twitter tomorrow morning, so I shall see what help they can offer, but I am holding my breath with them.
 
This is typical of Virgin Media ... I was on the 3 for £30 deal, then it slowly creeped up to £55 a month, the WORST was £80 a month for the same deal new customers got for £30. The service is good, their scamming is scandalous.
 
I pay £36 (roughly) per month for the 200mbit down / 20mbit up connection although that will go up to £51 a month in a few months. Seeing as I had such terrible experiences with Sky Broadband I'll just pay the Virgin Media tax. They are the best broadband provider round here and I actually get the speeds they advertise.

Edit: It is the VIVID 200 Gamer package.
 
Call up their retentions team and say that you want to cancel as you've found a better price / alternative elsewhere.

They'll likely offer you something to try and keep you but hold firm and give your notice to cancel.

3-7 days later they'll call you from their outbound retentions team who are authorised to offer bigger discounts.

Before you call it's worth having a quick check beforehand to see what competing providers are offering (Sky, BT, etc) so you know the sort of deal you're after.

Don't worry about threatening to leave - if they don't call you within 7 days (I've never known them not to) you can always ring up and cancel your cancelation.

I moved out last year in March and wrote them a letter saying that unfortunately our new house didn't have Virgin in the road so I'd be cancelling. Two months after moving I got some redirected post demanding 2 months line rental so I phoned and payed it. Thought nothing of it until I went to apply for some finance at the end of last year and found out my credit rating had been trashed with a 'default' by Virgin Media for another month unpaid (three months after I moved out). I phoned them and paid it just to sort out my credit rating, waited about a month for their credit guys to reply to say they would remove the default as 'goodwill' but it's still not been done, apparently it will be sorted soon.

I was sad to leave Virgin Media when we couldn't get it in our new house, but now they've lost all goodwill and I'll do my best to avoid them in future.

Their IVRs are an absolute shambles to try and navigate through to talk to someone. At least when I last rang them at least to moan about a price raise. Ended up getting 'loyalty discount' and actually paying less than I was previously :D

Internet was down for two days & they kept saying "No problems at our end" & hanging up.
Five days later, still no internet so I said I'm not paying for something I don't get.
First thing next day, saw their van at box opposite my place. Soon as he left, turned computer on & surprise surprise, I had internet.
Called them, said I was not willing to pay a full months bill for three weeks internet, but they sent full bill, followed a few days later with a two month bill & "none payment charges".
I cancelled virgin internot (I was past the 12 month thing), said send me correct bill & I'd pay it.
Sure enough, internet cut off, yet new bills came every month for five months, each adding a whole new month. When they finally sent a "correct bill" it was still for two months, so sod them, never again!

TV, 100mb comes to 30 a month for me. I left and got a retentions phone call to get this deal as I was adamant I was returning to sky
 
These are the buggers who refuse to install their product at my property because they're too lazy to do their job. And seeing as how BTw keep pushing back the FTTC timetable for my house I'm still stuck on ADSL2+ over copper.
