Hi,

I am installing a TV outside in my bar. I currently have 2no. virgin media boxes and don't want to pay for a third for occasional use on the outside TV. Is there a way of mirroring one of the boxes inside the house to the outside TV? Is there any additional cables I will need to run as I would like to get this done the weekend before I start finishing the garden off.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'd run an IR remote extender thingy (no idea what they're actually called) and just get a simple HDMI splitter. I think that should work as long as you're not after any special HDMI features aside from video/audio on screen.

As @Zefan said, run a HDMI splitter. You can also use the Virgin Remote app on your phone to change channels etc if you didn't want to use the normal remote. Works on wifi so could do it anywhere you get wifi signal, hopefully in the garden!

Virgin Box HDMI-> Splitter <-HDMI-> Outside TV.
-------------------------------<-HDMI-> Inside TV.

You don't say how far away this TV is going to be from the Virgin box, but HDMI has a max distance of 50 feet and you'll probably struggle to get a cable longer than 25 feet. There are wireless extenders but they cost over £100 which might be too much. The virgin offer of a second mini box costs £5 a month, but if the use is only going to be occasional why not wire it in for one, and then remove the second box and install it for use, and then put it back again?

It should only be a matter of power Co-ax and HDMI connections, so not terribly onerous.

If going outside means even partially exposing the cable to UV, British weather, our temperature range, and critters that like to chew on cable,then I'd give HDMI a swerve. It's not designed for outdoor use.

Go for a HDMI to Cat cable extender and use some outdoor grade Cat6.

Get an extender with a built-in splitter and IR return and you'll do it all off one plug socket and a single box indoors.

Get a tool for doing your own network plugs and you'llreduce the size of the holes you have to drill too, not to mention learning a useful skill in attaching the plugs to bare cable.

Google search "
eSynic POC 1080P HDMI Extenders 1 x 2 HDMI Output HDMI Splitter Loop Over Single RJ45 CAT6/6a/7 Cable Transmission up to 50M with EQ Function " and you should find the sort of thing I am talking about. The one here is 1080p, but there'll be 4K versions too if you subscribe to BT sport in UHD.
