I currently have 60mb with VM using the Superhub 1, I've honestly never had any problems regarding the router but, They informed me that over this next year they'll be upgrading everyone's lines, which is lovely.

They say it's getting doubled but its just getting knocked up to the next level, so mine will end up being 100mb, now I don't know if they give out the new Superhub2 with this upgrade or if I have to buy it, if I do have to buy it, is it actually worth it? I have no idea if they're horribly bad or actually better than the first ones and don't want to fork out money for a router that's worse than the one I have, which I have no problems with.

Is the 2.4ghz and 5ghz support the only advantage to the new one?

They don't need to upgrade you, but they'll probably chuck one in for free if you agree for extending your contract, or if you convince them by going through renentions or something.

It's a mark improvement on the SH1, at least, so i've heard.

The SH2 is by no means perfect, but it really is a vast improvement on the original SH. The wifi signal is much better, and has concurrent 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz broadcast (you had to choose one or the other on the SH1). It's also beefier so the routing and processing doesn't bog it down like on the SH1, which means you don't tend to need to reboot it every couple of days, which helps.

If you can blag one you'll not be disappointed. While the best way is to have the SH (regardless of model) in modem mode, and hook it up to a top line router (or better yet a self-built hardware firewall/router running IPfire or pfSense), either way the SH2 will serve you better than the original.

Just installed mine an hour ago.

We told Virgin we were leaving due to slower than expected speeds. Long story short after messing about with BT was we came back a few days later, had our speed increased to 152mb and got a new hub for free.

Seems to be quicker. I use Homeplugs so its slower than the expected speed (I get 70mb on Speedtest, missus' Wifi gets 150mb) but quicker than the first version.

Wifi seems to better/quicker too

If you do not have a 5ghz enabled device, then you won't get that benefit.

I wish I could use that excuse, when I was last one the phone to them I done a few speedtests and like I said I have 60mb and I was getting speeds of around 62mb.

I just wasn't actually sure if, since they're upgrading me will they not need to supply a better router to handle it better? Or is that only with 120mb+?

Dont use the SH2 for anything other than modem mode. Not only is it insecure, it is rubbish and will keep dropping wireless connections. It drops the 5ghz first, then the 2.4hjz.

If by insecure you mean the 7 second WiFi issue on boot, that's the case for most consumer routers. While the hardware isn't the most powerful in the world it's on par with most consumer level boxes. I've never had the WiFi drop except on my mum's hub which was faulty and replaced the next day by VM.

While modem mode does allow you to pass the connection to a better box (I run IPFire on a custom built hardware firewall/router), for most people the SH2 is a big improvement on the original.

I must just be unlucky. 7 times unlucky with the same symptoms.

Looking at the VM forums, Im not the only one. With regards to consumer routers being insecure, which ones as I've owned a few and never heard of this before.
