I've been on the phone to virgin scum after suffering poor download speeds and am shocked and appauled to hear that they are now throttling their "unlimited" internet connection. I'm leaving! I never signed up for this service and am disgusted at the way i have been treated.

What alternatives are there who offer an unlimited, uncapped and unthrottled connection at a competative price?

to be fair, what virgin are doing is perfectly fair, without it you would be whining that other people in the area are downloading so much its causing you to get lower speeds. This way only people who download lots during prime time get affected, while average internet users can continue without problems.

good luck with that....

Virgin's traffic management is actually a lot better than you'll get from most other ISPs.

For under 70quid a month? none as far as i know. If they did they would be swamped with people signing up and would have to introduce shaping or a fair use policy to survive.

Zen.co.uk do an unlimited business 8mb for £70 no caps and no shaping of any kind.

It's only the evening hours they throttle. I often leave mine downloading during the day when I'm at work and it goes full speed

For the money it's hardly an issue.

Even then need to be relatively close, ADSL2/2+ after 4 miles only scales a little better than traditional ADSL. So unless you're close its going to be the same old. Plus tbh Virgins cap is better than some, who charge you for more. I'm with them for 20mbs and I just schedule downloads for when its not capped, best part is, cause its capped people don't bother downloading at those times thus low latency for COD4. Use the capping to your advantage :D

I'm throttled 24/7 on Virgin ADSL. Usually there is a 2 or 3 hour gap so I know the line/equipment isn't faulty. I ring them and they say they are experience technical difficulties... Funny... these difficulties have lasted 5 months now.

£79 + VAT, so £93.

Krikey thats gone up a bit :p

And no im not on it myself im on the £25 for 20gig package. Does me fine and its super low latency and always max speed when i need it AND when i have any problems (rarely ) its always sorted fast by people who actually know what they are doing. Im quite happy to pay a tenner over the odds to have good support and reliability and stable speed.

In the 5 years ive had zen ive only had problems twice and both times it was faults at the exchange.

Ive wondered wether i should migrate to Be* myself as im on a LLU'd exchange but having read up about them im put off by the rumbling about them bringing in a fair use policy soon, due to the big uptake of their service by the big downloaders. Zen 2MB and 1MB legacy products used to be totally unlimited but they had to bring in 100GB limits due to "significant" numbers of people dloading 24/7.

To be honest i think the days of cheap fast and unlimited BB are coming to an end and in a few years i expect we will pay for what we use just like the old pay as you go :(

mines costs a tenner more than yours for 8mb "pretty much unlimited" then again not sure ive ever managed to break the 250gig mark in 1 month so not sure its totally true..

either way paying that bit more and getting a great service any issues etc are generally sorted quite fast and updated via txt messages if needed ;)
