To me this doesn't look right.

It is really really slow. At the moment I am the only one connected as well and there are 7 of us in total in the house (student house). So it can be slower than that.

Also having some serious problems with the router. Keeps losing internet connection and just forgetting it's settings, so having to set it all up again.

I'm thinking it is something to do with the router & probably the line for speed as it is terrible round here.

Virgin National Broadband using D-link DSL-2640R router. There is nothing on Virgin's website, that I can find about this router so I canny go through their trouble shooting pages about it.

Anyone using similar kit? Or have similar issues?

Thank you.

Take it you've tested that over a wired connection and not wifi just to rule out that as a potential issue?

There is nothing wrong with the line by the looks of things (you're at the max a regular ADSL connection will run) so that leaves just the ISP or the router.

Given that Virgin's DSL service is generally considered a bag of ****e that would be the first thing I looked into - are there any reported issues on the VM site specific to your area, but as you say you're having issues with the router I'd maybe give VM a call and say it is fubar and get them to send you another one.

Also - is this consistantly this slow, or is it only at "peak time" i.e. evenings when everyone in the area (not just your house) is home and hammering their connections.

Yeah and when wired.

Constantly slow, although the internet in Aber in general is absolutely shocking. I mean it's like the stone ages here no joke it's horrible. Lib dem bloke here wants to sort it out seen as it's a university town and everything.

Well I'd maybe try a different router (get VM to give you another one, say that one must be faulty) after that I'd look at a different ISP.
