Virgin Super Hub

I've turned my Super Hub onto modem mode and it's all working though my Netgear router.

I'm now only getting really low download speeds. (9-10mb)

Is it just a case of getting a better router?

Quite possibly.

Which of Netgear's many routers is it?

Are you using a wired, or wireless, connection to the router?

It's the basic white one surPlied by virgin media.

Connected via Ethernet cables.

FWIW, when I turned on Modem-mode on my Superhub - connecting a DLink DIR-655 - I noticed no drop in speed etc. Possibly, ping is a little worse, but haven't really tested that much. My thoughts would be your router....

It's probably a WGR614 which isn't going to be up to the job.

The router reviews over at smallnetbuilder.com are a good starting point to find something with the necessary routing performance.

If you’re running wired why are you wanting to use a different router? I though the problems with the Super Hub were related to the wireless side only.

It is the hub, look at the history of it. It started the same, you can't escape having problems like this with VM.

I have 3 pcs all wired to the netgear router. When I up graded to 50mb broadband the new router ended up down stairs. That would mean re running 3 lots of cable so I'm hoping to just use the super hub in modem mode and then use a router where the old one was.

Can't you just leave the Super Hub as the router and run a single cable upstairs to a network switch?
