Basically I've got 30meg interweb but at least once a day it's dropping the speed to 100-200kBps and it makes todays web almost unusable, however a quick on and off at the superhub returns 30meg. Paying £50 a month to virgin I don't think I should have to do this.

I phoned them up and the guy did a line test and said there was a fault with the line and that it wasn't getting enough signal. I've got a technician coming tomorrow.

Can someone smart explain to me what this means? Is it to do with me extending the cable at the wall further into the house?

Yeh that too. You could have introduced more noise on the line. The extra cable could have caused the power on the line to drop. It could be many things.

Wouldn't that be a continuous issue though, rather than it getting a solid 30meg connection for some time and then dropping to 200kBps until a router reset?

I would plead ignorance about the extended cable just in case VM decide that it was your fault and bill you for the engineer time or something crazy like that.

What are your modem stats when it's working and when it's not??

Blimey! I better get the hub moved next to the wall then.

The annoying thing is though that we've had a solid 10 meg connection for years and years and got upped to 20 not so long ago and that also worked fine, since we've had the 'super'hub it's been playing up. The only change of variable in our broadband has been getting 30meg and a superhub. Everything else is the same.

Left it how it was in the end, the bloke came round, apparently it had too much signal. Stuck an attenuator on the back and it's been fine since :)
