Virgin to Increase speed for free

I love my 20mb connection, I get 2.33mb/sec from Giganews 99% of the time, so will be upgrading to 50mb if it isn't too much extra

Great news. I'm quite a fan of the 4meg service I'm on, but 10meg would certainly be better.

Does anyone know what the upload for the 10meg service will be as it always seems quite slow on the 4meg as it stands.

I'm in Liverpool but no sign of my upgrades.

Liking the new virgin newserver they are trialling seeing a lot more completes and retention than the standard server.

It's in the newsgroup support cable group if you need the addy.

Only discovered it yesterday so I best get hammering it to test it ;)

As far as i'm aware it is 512k? Looking forward to it but hopefully they will raise the capping limit a little bit.

Virgin Retentions.

I'm about to ring them to propose a deal. I've been with them a year now. Going to use the old "going with sky instead" line.

Any one got the correct number to phone for Virgin Retentions?

EDIT- NM just phoned and got a nice deal :)

XL TV
Sky Sports collection
Phone M
Broadband L
Two V+ Boxes

£69 with £75 install fee.

I didnt even ask for a deal, he worked it out on his pc to that price. But on their webpage it comes out at £77 :)

I've just had a call from Virgin Media, asking how I was with their service etc.

I won't go into the boring details, but she told me that I will be getting a free upgrade from 20mb to 50mb around the end of February or early March - I'm in Liverpool btw.

my router doesn't say its happening either. It stills hows an internet connection yet my internet dies on me. I dont think its my router either as there is no reason why it would be tbh as it has worked fine for ages.

There won't be any free upgrades to 50Mb any time soon, it'll be a new tier introduced at a higher price. The rep he spoke to was either lieing or didn't know what she was talking about.

On their site it looks like a new fibre optic line would have to replace you current cable. More holes in walls.
That's just marketing so VM can take advantage of recent awareness of fibre optics, mainly thanks to the news of a plan to cable sewers with fibre a couple of months ago. Cable has always been fibre to the street box and that's how it will continue to work.

I'd kill to be in a cable area. A VM employee has posted on another forum that the 50 meg service (DOCSIS 3) will have a 5 megabit upload!:D I'm in Southport and apparently our corner of the town didn't get cabled. Doh. I'm SERIOUSLY looking at moving house - I'd pay for 50/5 any day of the week!
