Hi guys, just would like a bit of input.

At the moment with Virgin, i have a fibre to the cabinet, then fibre to the home.
But with all the capping and general buggery, i want to move to an ISP that isn't is unlimited.

At the moment im paying £40.40 for a 60Mbs line with anytime calls. (plus added 0845 calls Etc, so it comes to around £45 at the end of it)

I've looked into plusnet, BT, Sky so far. From what i see though, all these seemed to use ADSL2+.

Would i notice a difference? I live in a cul-de-sac and the phone lines do seem a bit dated. I am most interested in the 76Mbs line from plusnet, with calls, which comes to about ~£38. But since it is an FTTC line, is there anything in the way of dodgy shindigs on the ol' copper? Would i notice anything different compared to the virgin cable?

I would just like a little leaving virgin advice, see what others have done and if they are happier about it.

Cheers, for your help.

I left virgin (100mb) due to awful customer service and the connection.

YouTube was unusable in the evenings, and generally my area was oversubscribed, Virgin didn't care and there was no fix date.

We left them ( got out of contract ) and went over to BT.

We had an estimate of 60mb speed and i'm getting about 58mb speed so big difference to Virgins supposedly 100 mb.

BUT the surfing experience with the BT connection is much much better, i cant really fault it, torrents, YouTube, streaming Iplayer etc all blows Virgins connection into the water, even on line gaming is better with much less lag.

I would never go back to Virgin media.

Similar experience, moved from an oversubbed UBR but was actually getting my full bandwidth (100 / 10).

Now on BT Infinity 2 getting 76~ 16~ with a much more stable connection. Jitter down to 1ms, pings down a few ms in general over Virgin and an all round better experience.

I must be lucky. Or no-one around me can afford 100mb. I have no issues with virgin really apart from every now and again I may get the odd day when its not very stable.

I was just wondering about going from a cable fibre connection to a ADSL one. Is there really much change. It just seems strange to me that it can handle a 76Mbs connection ok.

Just seems like a downgrade to me...

I assume this means I can get everything really?

I've registered an interest in some companies doing ridiculous 1Gb networks and so on. Doubt it will take off, but worth a nudge.

Looking at plusnet, seems to be bad reviews of it on some sites, but good on others. Its always a pain looking for ISPs...

After calling virgin, They've offered to up my speed to 100Mbs, for less money i am paying currently.

This includes higher traffic management apparently, which will affect after how much usage until it throttles.

Even after throttling it will be >60Mbs which is good for me considering its less money.

Yeah, I was considering a variety of people, but my phone lines really seem like they've seen better days.

Im 1.41km from the exchange so to get 100Mbs seems pretty darn good. Fat gaming sesh.

Cheers for your help man.
