what will happen if i get the "M" sized broadband package but keep going over the 350mb limit (a few queued up 360 demos are sometimes rather large) constantly over the course of a night?

going to be sharing a house with a few other people so cant guarantee that i'll be under the 350mb limit all the time.

will they say anything even though i'll be shaped to 1mb for 4 hours as per their rules?

What can they say  there is no MB/GB limit so to speak, they simply slow you down when you hit your limit. I find even when I'm well under I always get capped :(

well that throws a spanner in the works for me, i was set on getting BE as i have always been with ADSL, but theres no guarantee that i could get the full 24mb service with them, but they for the time being, have no download caps.

20mb guaranteed during off peak sounds mighty tempting, although heard the gaming pings are quite bad?

My pings are sub 20s :) well in the UK anyway :p I'm on the 20Mb package btw, I was on Be* then switched to Virgin IMO I wish I didn’t.

Put simply the throttling business that’s going on, when I switched it was purely for the 20Mb speeds, I wasn’t aware of any type of throttling on any Virgin broadband tiers. I prefer an uninterrupted service :)

ah i see, i'm just worried with BE i might not get anywhere near the 24mb theoretical speeds. on one hand its anything up to 24mb all the time or guaranteed 20mb then throttled during peak hours. what to do!

does virgin bb provide a static ip?

Yeah mine is static well it ant changed since day one anyway :p

Who are you with now btw and what speed?

i'm with zen and on 1mb :) but will be shortly moving in with other people who will need a net connection for gaming/downloading/whatever.

Should be a nice boost mate whichever ISP you choose :) I would personally lean to Be* my advice is choose wisely otherwise you will be looked into a contract and can’t escape!

yeah i had considered that, BE is 3 months notice but im locked with virgin for a year i think :( i'm just wondering how much i'll curse my luck if i cant get more than 5mb and given thats the speed virgin throttle down to, i'll be rather annoyed!

will have to do some careful thinking given all the available info.

My Virgin 4MB connection has been throttled every day for the past week. It's not just for 4 hours either, it's from 4pm to 12am. The ping and download speed absolutely suck when it's throttled. This service used to be OK but it's gone right down the tubes lately.

You do know the M package is only 2MB and the L 4MB the XL 20MB (if you area is enabled)
