I'm looking at the Plusnet 'Unlimited Fibre Broadband' offering and it seems very good in terms of speeds, lack of shaping and price. The 18-month total cost is around £440 compared to £480 for Virgin Media's 60mbit package. I've also found out that VM's upload speeds are very low (3-5mbits) so currently favouring Plusnet
I believe Virgin are working towards having their upload rates at 10% of the download rate. At the moment many people are still stuck at nearer 5% (in my area at least).
Full rate FTTC is nearer 25% of the download rate. Getting 15Mb/s+ seems to be common. I'm on 65Mb/s down, 16Mb/s up.
If VM works then it's awesome. I had to battle with them for a year. But now I get great pings and 105Mb/s (on 100Mb contractct) constantly. Maybe get it and cancel if it doesn't work for you.
Had bt infinity for about a year now, tbh was a bit reluctant as its bt but its been very good
I had virgin 10 mb for a year and it was awful for gaming although others have a good service i defo wouldnt recommend them!
I've just placed an order with Plusnet for their 'Unlimited Fibre' package. Hopefully it will all go smoothly after being installed at the end of the month
Thanks for your help and advice, everyone. I look forward to getting a decent connection speed!
I'm interested as to how you get on with them. For me they're looking like a really good choice; I'm currently with O2 and supposedly my cabinet is getting enabled by the end of May 2013. At that point, it'll either be O2 or Plus Net depending on if O2 have a fibre product or not.

I've had the connection for 9 days now and after spending most of that time incorrectly profiled at 40/10 it's now where I'd hoped. I'm particularly pleased with the upload, which has exceeded my expectations
Plusnet's customer service has also been excellent; polite, courteous and responsive. I would currently recommend them based on this.
