In brief I pondered the question "what good is my backup if the hosue burns down taking the external drives with it?".

Being a 50mb Virgin subscriber I get free unlimited online storage. And I can download software which automatically nacks up my photos/music/videos etc and any subsequent changes.

Does anyone use this software and can they tell me what its like? ie speed/reliability etc? It appears to work in a similiar way to drop box?

I had hoped to use my windows live skydrive but you can only upload a maximum 200 files at anyone time which would be a pain in the arse uploading my photo collection that way.

I run VStuff on my WHS, it is set to monitor my shared photo's folder which I map to each client, this allows the other half to take photo's, dump them to the shared drive and the WHS takes care of storage/replication and automatically uploads them with zero interaction from her. As the WHS is on 24/7 up link isn't a problem (it's normally maxing the down link with Sabz) so they upload slowly in the background or less slowly if the Sabz queue is empty. The last GB took the best part of a day until Sabz finished but it's not a big deal as the laptop/desktop can be turned off and it's just left to get on with it. You also get 50 free prints each month (100 on 50mbit) though i've not made use of this yet. All in all it's free and it works and provides me with a useful off site backup for family pics that are irreplaceable.

yes i've been running it on and off for days trying to upload my photo library.... 180mb of 8gb done!

and i'm on the 50mb package

Thanks for the replies guys. Will give it a go and just let it run when im not gaming.

It was odd, for all my backups, I suddenly thought "WHAT IF THE HOSUE BURNT DOWN". Of the free ones these seems the best so happy to sacrifice speed.
