Just had virgin 50mb installed, the engineer said I was getting 48mb through the router.

did a quick check on speedtest.net (which I know isnt reliable)

so I downloaded a file from rapidshare and got a download speed of between 3.5mb and 4.5mb per second. same with the ftp.blueyonder games site

does the rapidshare/ftp speed sound about right for 48mb?

cheers in advance

EDIT : Im now getting 6mb per second from megaupload.com

Rapidshare isn't the best test, but those speeds are ok, though a little on the low side. When my 50mbit decides it wants to work properly I get 6.2MB/sec download speeds which is pretty much the maximum possible.

Try some other sources at different times in the day and see if your speeds are any better but to be honest that's not too bad.

I just had 50mb installed today. When the engineer done a test it hit 45mb. Tried the newsgroups and started averaging 10000KB which seems really high to me?

Set up the wireless N and now average about 7000KB through the newsgroups so all good so far!

speedtest.net is crap.

try downloading from gamershell.com or use an Internet Download Manager to max out your connection..

i always get 6.2-6.5MB, 50-53Mb

cheers for that, like I say getting about 6mb from megaupload so not far off full. So long as I average around 5mb ill be happy then :) Ill keep testing throughout the day and see how it goes, so long as it doesnt go any lower ill be more than happy :)

i always amx my connection using rapidshare, throw on a file manager with it aswell, i suggest Orbit, and you'll always max :) i love my 50mb

I tend to use:

http://fuller.zen.co.uk/test/

They are relatively small files (100Mb) so might not max out your connection but normally I get 5.2MB/sec off them straight up.

Or try using Bittorrent and download a well seeded Linux ISO file, if that sort of multi-sourced download can't max out your connection easily after a few minutes something isn't right.

I use jdownloader speeds have picked up and running about 6.1mb per second constant so more than happy with that :)

The theoretical maximum for 50mbit is 6400k/sec, however if compression is used you may see higher than that (especially for text as used in newsgroups).

ah ok that makes sense.

Well ive just done a speedtest on the net and got these results which seem spot on;

Last Result: Download Speed: 50383 kbps (6297.9 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 1640 kbps (205 KB/sec )

That was connecting via wireless N as well
