Virginmedia/ Synology NAS Port problems

I recently had a replacement VM Hub 5 router supplied. Everything was fine until I forgot my NAS password. This was changed in a hurry because I was hacked. Then, stupidly, I factory reset it instead of doing a password reset on my Synology NAS.
That would be okay, but I have to reload the DSM software. I go to Synology (find.synology.com), and it starts to connect the NAS to home to reload the software. After 5 minutes, it says, "Connection failed, check internet settings." Well, it seems that the Nas wants to use 192.168.0.231:5000 , yet the VM router has assigned 192.168.0.231::24.
I have looked at ways to change it but I am at a loss, the router is very restricted in its control services that you can alter.
any help would be gratefully received

Think this needs to be in the network sub.

Can you see the device/MAC through the VM router? Could there be any other IP conflicts? What device are you trying to access the NAS from?

The number after the colon is the port. Port 5000 is the default web GUI port for Synology. Can you access 192.168.0.231:5000 in your web browser?

If not, download Synology Assitant and use that to configure the NAS.

Sorry, it has taken so long to reply I have had a severe illnes.
The facts of the matter are as follows: Running Windows 11 fully updated
Synology DNS 413J 4 bay NAS with 12 Tb storage set as one drive.
Stupidly lost password, so checked online how to reset, it stated press RST button once until you hear bleep and then hold for further 4 seconds. Stupid, I now know this has caused a full reset, so I followed all the rules to reload the Disk Manager. all to no avail. it starts to download software but then says no network, even though there is an internet connection.
I have tried to do the reset again, however I now only get the first bleep and nothing else.
I have read that yu can remove the drives and put in another drive to load DSM, the question is does this have to be a completely clean drive.
The NAS shows in the router settings
Shows up in Synology Assistant, this is where it starts to download and install the DSM but fails after 4 minutes

Many thank in advance

Do you have a laptop at all?

Can connect the NAS directly to the laptop using the LAN port and then use wifi to connect to the internet.

Share the connection from the wifi and see if you can download it that way then configure it

Or if you have a USB to ethernet adaptor you can use a desktop PC or a 2nd NIC in a desktop PC
