Virtual art software

Am I being entirely unrealistic or is there software available that with a tablet with allow you to create artwork?

I don't mean simple paint drawings, I mean complete pictures using pencil to start, followed by watercolour, oils and pastels. I realise that it would not be as good as actual painting, but it must surely be acceptable and good fun.

Is it good for painting though? Thought it was more an image manipulation program.

You need Adobe Illustrator rather than Photoshop.

I think Artrage and Corel painter most suit what I want.

Gonna buy Artrage though, as it seems stupidly cheap even for the top version. I'll download a trial of Painter.
