Hope someone can help with this...my mum wants to do some online ordering, but most of the places she wants to use only accept visa/mastercard and she only has a Visa Electron with her bank account due to poor credit rating...is there some kind of virtual visa type thing she can signup for without getting charged a great deal that would enable her to use VISA/Mastercard only sites?

Can't you just use visa electrons by selecting the normal visa option? It's always worked for me when I had my electron.

Not sure if it still works though.

Does the site support paypal payments or worldpay or anything like that?

there is one about that you pay the money into the account and then use that card.. like a bank account i suppose but with a little interest i assume (VISA) cant remember the name now though :( :( - im after the name myself lol

Edit: just found this one on google. Not sure if its any good?

Get a Debit card instead? Avoids credit problems and most are visa or mastercard?

That's what her electron is...it's a debit card from her bank account, but they won't give her a "proper" normal VISA debit due to her bad credit rating

Electron is not a "proper" Debit card, the credit rating shouldnt effect your mum getting a Visa Delta (Debit) Card as much as a a proper Visa Credit Card. Delta and Credit both can be used online though.

Every site I go on to buy stuff I use my VISA Electron - I just select the VISA/mastercard option and it works.

I would contact your bank if the card is getting refused :)

Surely she can get a Maestro(sp?) debit card? They're accepted most on most, if not all, online shops.

I've had my Debit Card (full Visa, not electron or anything) since I was 18 (possibly 16 but not sure). Its from Nationwide and I don't remember them doing any credit checks ('Hello, can I have a Debit Card? Yes, here you go, goodbye'). I'm sure most banks and building societies do them.

I thought electron's were for 16-18 year olds, i.e. a mini-Via.

The bank will tell you "Tough".
Some authorisation systems just won't accept Electron (including ours at work)
