If you want to play wirelessly, you'll need to buy a dedicated router to plug inline between your hub and the PC or get a wifi card and create a local hotspot.

I want to play vr games and use my desktop via a cable as I prefer the best quality, no interest in playing wireless

Then your only option is to use the default oculus software which has the debug and tray tool to adjust settings or steam software wired.
