I've been setting up a couple of test environements for use at home on my ML110 g5. I've been using ESX3i and got annoyed with the little bug that appeared today so thought I'd give Virtual Iron a bash as I'd downloaded it a while ago.

I can't recommend it highly enough, for a small scale home or business VM environment its brilliant. I can build VMs back them up, restore them etc all out the box with no new licenses. I has the cloning functions which are missing from ESX3i without VC and everything runs in a Java Console, the management tools, the remote access the lot.

If you have any interest in VMs go and get the download of the Single Server edition which is free and have a bash.
 
Its the "all in one" approach, Xen needs a seperate management console, VMware needs VC to do some of the clever stuff like cloning. I installed in Virtual Iron in under 5 minutes and had my 1st VM up in 30-40 (most of which was installing the OS)

For a free solution I can't fault it, and for even a full production system I'm seriously tempted to get something built out using iSCSI to allow the likes of HA, Live move etc.

They are also one of the cheapest licenses out their. I'm just impressed, it does what it says on the tin, nice and simply, with no fuss at all.

I've got 110 G5 and when I try to create a VM it complains that I need to turn off HT but the 110 G5 doesn't even have HT. I read on the Virtual Iron forums that I need to disable the second core but I don't want to do that for performance reasons.

Nope none, I'll check my Bios settings and post them in a bit for you.

My CPU settings in the BIOS are

Enable
Core Multi Processing Enable
Thermal Management Enable
Set Max EXT CPUID Disabled
C1 Enhanced Mode Disabled
Intel VT Enabled
No Execute Enabled
Power GV1/GV3

Hope that helps.
 
I'll have a look when I get home, what version of Virtual Iron are you running? I'm on the .14 version from what I remember.
 
theres another version 4214 I think.

Each VM can only have a single CPU assigned but it will use multi CPUs for the VMs.
