Virtual Machine Clock (time) keeps falling behind

My Raspberry Pi OS VM running in VirtualBox clock keeps falling behind/running slow.

rebooting corrects the time but constantly falls behind.

would this be due to lacking CPU power?

I always assumed that NTP would run by default.... Silly me

I can't find a way to disable host/VM sync in virtual box
installed/set up NTP on the VM and it's still lagging behind... hopefully will have more joy with this after I've had some tea lol
