Virtual Machine LAN connection?

Hi,

I was wondering if you can have a virtual machine running that uses a different network than the what the host machine is using?

ie.

host = home network
VM = public wireless or 3G or *ehem, your nieghbours connection?

I would also be interested in knowing this, from what I have read though i believe you required the same subnet on the host and the guest, and traffic is then natted through to the virtualised interface.

What about if you gave the guest full control over the pci controller for the network card?

Could be totally wrong though...
