Guys

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bit and I'd like to install XP Pro SP3 under virtual pc 2007

When I try to install the free virtual pc 64bit I get the error below?

What's the best to use VMware?

Few things I need to do in XP and dual boot is a pain!

First time I've dabbled with this sort of thing and I'm using the free VirtualBox on 64bit Vista fine

VirtualBox here too - it's much nicer than VMware imho. That said, if you have a complicated net setup or want to mess about with bridging network connections and running multiple servers etc I'd go with VMWare Server every time. For basic "multiple OSs on one desktop for something to do", though, I'd still highly recommend VirtualBox. It's also free, and runs on x64 just fine ;)

Yeah virtualbox here too, I did try and install virtual pc before but it errored at setup and that was the end of that. I also tried vmware player but I prefer vbox much easier to use.

Not sure how vmware server works but with player I found a site where you just enter the details you want and then download a file and use that to install the os but I got sick of doing that so virtual box took over, although I can never get the shared folders to work but aint no real biggy for me.

VPC is also a lot slower in performance terms compared to Virtualbox or VMware.

He wants to run XP on his Vista home PC. The performance difference in this situation will be negligible and not worth the pain that is using VMware.

No, but it is worth using Virtualbox.

VPC is at the bottom of the pile when it comes to virtualisation solutions.

Installing - VirtualBox-1.6.4-Win_amd64.msi

Am I doing something wrong?

Apparently there is an issue with installing this on Vista b4bit for some users?

Starts install and then rolls back? I have UAC off and I'm using the one and only admin account?

It trys to install into programfiles and not programfiles(x86) when I click browse to install in to x86 the install bomobs out ???

But you're installing the 64 bit version (VirtualBox-1.6.4-Win_amd64.msi) so why would you want it in Program files (x86)? Have you actually tried allowing it to install where it wants to, out of interest?
