I'm using windows 7 rc and wanted to play mta:sa (mulltiplayer sanandreas) and it won;t work on windows 7 so i installed virtual pc and run xp x64 on it and it runs nice although whenever i try to play any games on it they don;t load processes don;t start either. What could this be i've installed all the drivers and installed virtual pc additions, please help.

I dont think you get a proper graphics card in a VM, isn't it something like an S3 Trio?

You'd be better of dual booting into XP.

Why on earth are you troubleshooting using xp 64 bit instead of the 32 bit version?

As an alternative to dual booting, put 32 bit xp inside virtualbox rather than messing around with virtual pc.

Try VirtualBox from Sun as it has better graphic support IIRC, if that fails, repartition your HDD or get a second drive and install XP on that.

Virtualbox is awesome. They're making good progress with proper 3D support but be aware that it's experimental at the moment. The rule of thumb I work to with it is anything that can run well on a 32mb card, it'll run well.

I had a try with windows 98se and didn't have much luck, drivers caused me problems. The disk was ancient though so may have been the main source of the problem. XP runs like a charm on it, make sure you put the graphics ram up to at least 32. An interesting thing to do if your system has enough ram is to mark off a 4gb ramdisk and install xp to that through virtualbox. XP has never been so quick :)

Nice one Jon! I've wondered for a few years on how to creat a RAM drive and you Jon has reminded me again. Perhaps here's my opportunity to ask how to allocate RAM as a drive letter?
