Hi everyone, would someone be able to point me in the right direction for this please.

All my son does is play games like minecraft on his very small school-supplied netbook. For xmas, I was hoping to get him a headset (I'm thinking along the lines of the Gamesmaster virtual reality headsets back in the 90s).

Would anyone be able to give me some advice on this please. I've seen a few but they are silly money £500+, ideally I'd like one for under £100 if that's at all possible. Not sure if it will be.

Thanks in advance for any help,
John

Oculus dev kits are out (I have one).. not the most user-friendly yet, and cost a fair chunk more than £100 by the time they get here. But its a good solution.

It does play Minecraft .. check out the 'Meant to be Seen' forum for more info on that.

You'll need a reasonable gaming rig to run most games with it though, probably need to post some specs on the netbook but it's doubtful it'd be sufficient unfortunately.

Hi, thanks for the replies, Its not the end of the world if they aren't too user friendly and after a quick look seems like I could get one for £185 (which I might be willing to stretch to). Definitely something I'm going to look into. Thank you very much.

I don't think you'll find any at all under £100. - You'll need some decent hardware to run them as well.

As said, Oculus rift seems to be your best option.

ahh, I've just seen your last comment about the spec of the netbook - it is very low so might not be an option. I'm probably going to sound very stupid here but I was thinking there would something out there that is basically that is a TV that you wear on your face (and it wouldn't require anything complicated)?

Or is it because it totally immerses the person into the game (i.e they can't see anything other than the game and physically moving head left and right will move around landscapes?)
