virtual servers

i learning some server 2003. i currently have it installed on a local virtual pc along with vista business (32 bit) on another virtual machine. i have created a dns and have assigned both the server and the client (vista business 32 bit) a static ip. i have disabled the firewall on my non virtual pc in case of any conflicts. the problem im having is connecting the vista machine to the server 2003 dns i cannot exchange pings between the server and the vista machine is there anything i should check that could be causing a problem?

if any other information is needed please ask and ill try my best to provide it

Can you ping the IP address of your Vista box from 2K3 and vice versa? If you can then it is a DNS issue, however if you can not then there is another problem.

When you have turned off your firewall, did you just turn it off or did you remove the protection from each network connection? As sometimes turning off the firewall still leaves the protection on the network card itself.

I also assume the Vista machines DNS server is the IP of your 2k3 box?
