Virtualbox users, how do you use CD images?

I try and get it to use .dmg files, but Virtualbox is having none of it.

Perhaps I should try an ISO file, but is there any software for OSX that can make an ISO file from a CD/DVD?

Yep I've tried Disk Utility but I can only get it to copy a disk into DMG format.
