We are moving our business to a new Virtual infrastructure running Vsphere ESXi4.6 with VMWare View. At present we have got SEP 11.0.6005.562 installed on the base image and this image provisions desktops succesfully. The issue we have is that when Liveupdate runs on the provisioned desktops it makes the system unworkable. The liveupdate is set to randomize with +/- 4 hours but it is still causing a negative impact. The desktops are linked clone floating and set to refresh on desktop logoff.
I have been discussing with my manager and we are thinking about maybe disabling Liveupdate and performing a manual update on the baseimage on a weekly basis then recomposing. The other option is maybe looking into Vshield Endpoint which will take the AV off the images completely. One issue we have is that some of our users need to use a VPN solution to connect to a provider we subcontract for, and the connection profile checks for up to date AV. Does anyone know if VShield would prevent this from working as it removes the AV scanning from the VMs, and also any recommendations regarding our current set up? Would be great to hear how anyone else addresses this on their virtual environments.
