I have vista & xp installed on my machine. Is it possible to use something like VMWare to run XP inside Vista (in the same way you can do the same thing with Parallels on the Mac). Anybody have any idea or pointers to more information?

Any help appreciated!

Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 - Free.
Just install Windows as normal onto a Virtual Hard disk.

hmm thats not what I'm after - I've already got xp installed on a hard disk - i want to load this partition as a VM in Vista as per Parallels on the Mac..... I'm slowly migrating data and applications over from XP and dont want to constantly reboot my machine.

I'm certainly not aware of anything that will boot existing data as a virtual machine, but would be very interested to hear of its existence.

Oh and just for those who do want Virtual PC, you'll need to grab the 2007 Beta (also free) if Vista will be involved.

you might be able to mount that partition in the virtual machine, but windows wont work properly. Just the same as if you stuck your HD in a totally different machine, it would probablt BSOD on boot.
