Argh, been infected on my main PC (using my macbook at the moment to post this as i can't get on the internet on main pc)

It keeps coming up with "Application cannot be executed. The file (name of whatever i'm trying to start).exe is infected.

I can't run my anti virus scanner either because it comes up with that?!?!

Help ASAP please!

These really can be a pain in the butt. You basically need to run your AV before the virus takes a grip on it.

What anti virus are you using? With avast if this happens, I tend to boot into windows using command prmpt only, and schedule a boot time scan. So it scans before windows even loads up.

How do i load up in Safe mode though? I've gone into BIOS, don't see safe mode option? Or is that "Load Fail-Safe defaults"!?!?!?!

Ok, on safe mode, do i select safe mode with networking/command prompt or just safe mode?

Just did safe mode, loaded up whatever it did, but the screen just shows "Input Not Supported" (I have two monitors)

I've taken out my secondary monitor, and restarted in safe mode, seems to be loading up vista on the main screen, bad time to get a virus if i don't catch it in time, can't afford another PC at the moment!

It's scanning on Malwarebytes now, after this i'll use AVG, but that seems to take hours and hours :s

I hope i catch this bugger, was going to consider formatting as i have a lot of crap on this hard drive anyways.

These are easy to get rid of if you follow proceedure however if your drive is full of plop a reinstall might be worth it, and what better time then now

I was using AVG, didn't do a scan though for a while.

I'm scared of doing a reformat. Since our internet took ages to set up, stupid TalkTalk, and i don't want to have to go through all that again, and just generally worried about doing a reformat.

My mum says she can get Windows 7 for £30, so i'll wait for that i think then reformat.

if you have a wired router to connect to the internet you dont need to install anything to make the pc work if you reinstall... jsut plug the network cable in and you are done... if its wireless you just need to know the wireless key..

Trust me, we did this and TalkTalk still failed but it got sorted by us, their customer service people are rubbish, but that's another story.

Malwarebytes found 6 objects, cleaned them, now running AVG command line scanner, how long does this roughly take?

I really want to reformat now, might aswell wait for Windows 7 though, as i don't know what my vista disc is :D

It depends how many files you have on your machine to be honest. Could take 30 minutes could take an hour and a half. Just be patient and let it do its thing :)

I have used a program called Unhackme which is pretty good,
it works from when you boot, i.e when windows is loading,
it will get the source of your problem but you should only
kill the one you're sure is causing the problem,it does do a
back up so you can go back in case you get the wrong one.
I use this when others don't work
