Hi all,

After a particular frustrating morning im sitting on my 2nd PC whilst my main rig is formatting and reinstalling Windows. To cut a long story short, this morning a virus deleted my entire Windows directory leaving it compleltly unrepairable. After speaking to Microsoft tech team via phone, it has been comfirmed as some sort of virus. Luckily not much will be lost but still a big inconveniance for me!

I was using AVG free edition and the standard Windows firewall as my protection, always kept up to date etc but I suppose I get what I pay for so now may be a time to get new Anti Virus software. Any recommendations on whats the best on the market? I dont mind paying but i dont want anything with a heavy interface or intrusive software that gets in the way, just want it to run in the background and do a proper job.

Many thanks in advance :(

Unlucky there.

You wouldn't happen to have a name for this virus would you because all I have is AVG and windows firewall and it dosn't sound fun.

They are currently 'looking into it' apparantly as they hadnt come accross a case like mine before and some of the error messages were confusing so they said they will look into it and get back to me to tell me what it was exactly, probably something new and undetected. Ive heard a lot of bad stuff about AVG free edition though so this is a great excuse for me to jump ship. NOD32 is it then, just been reading about that anyway and impressed me. Many thanks.

Ive gone with NOD32, cost me £24 but after todays events, im a firm believer in you get what you pay for, very impressed with it so far, like the way the AMON system checks every file as its used in real time for instant detection.
