Hi guys, i've seen this twice now on two different machines both with AVG Free 8.
Basically AVG doesnt update and it keeps saying it cant contact the update server. The system is completely fine except when browsing and even then its only a problem with google. Let me explain
You go to your homepage (google) and type in a search, say "Holidays", or "Cars" anything you want. The results appear as normal and are genuine but when you click on any one of the resuls a new tab opens (IE7) and the page starts loading one of these stupid alternative search providers like what you see when a web page doesnt exist. The other thing is, normally the google tab will be replaces with the visited link, in the above case a new tab is created and the google page remains the same.
If you navigate to the address via the address bar then all is well.
How can I resolve this? I've cleared the Temp folder run S&D and even repaired Windows. Now with Vista, this worked, but not with XP, the problem remained.
I'm sure there is a link between AVG not updating and the above 'virus'.
