Not help for me, but what happened was, a Java notice popped up in the right corner in Vista (apparently :p), and then suddenly after that everything stopped working (couldn't get on browser, etc.). Now when she logs in on that account, it's just a blank screen, however she can log in on the guest account but it shuts down the laptop every so often. A notice also keeps coming up in the corner saying no hard drive.

She says she hasn't clicked on anything dodgy. All she did was go on the MSN news website, and then the Java notice popped up. But take that with a pinch of salt.

What do you think is wrong? I'd have a look at it myself but it's not here. :o

Women need compulsory courses in protecting their computers.

Thanks.

I would safe boot it and system restore. If the restore points are gone they might have been removed by a virus/spyware. Install Avast on the machine and update it either way. Then install Malwarebytes and update and run a full scan.

Thanks, all sorted now.

She booted in safe mode, and ran Malwarebytes which came up with 6 infections. Deleted and everything's fine now. :)
