Peeps,

I got sent a message via messenger on my phone from someone in my contacts. Not thinking, I opened it and it took me to a website which turned out to be dodgy. I opened it on my pc (to make sure) and eset stopped it.

Anyway, Ive scanned my phone with BitDefender and nothing is wrong, but is there a better app to use to be 100% certain and put my mind at rest??

Thanks !

If in doubt wipe it, I wouldn't trust any of the antivirus apps for Android, they're all crap.

Up to you.

Thanks for the reply.

I installed 4 virus/malware apps (1 at at time), and scanned the phone. None of them found anything.

I tried the link via pc and it was something to do with installing ads.....

So far I havent noticed anything dodgy on my phone, If I do I will wipe it and start again.

Might be wrong, But I don't think it's possible to get a virus just by viewing a webpage on android. Usually there'll just be loads of popups and the potential to install an app, but you'd get a pop up and have to manually click install.

Have a look through the list of installed apps and see if you notice anything suspicious, if not I'd say you're good to go.

These virus scanners etc do more harm than good and most of them exist to farm your phone for data ie contacts. Dump them asap - you're wasting your time there as all you will do is slow your phone down and decrease battery life due to god knows how many services they'll run in the background.

It is hard for anyone to really help as you've given us no details on your phone model or it's OS to start with.

Its an S9 running latest Android, Oreo.

All the apps I tried I uninstalled straight away after scanning.

At the time of the original post I was paranoid that I'd messed up, but I'm not as paranoid now as I was.

And to be honest I think the link I clicked on was more to do with Windows than Android, kinda what UnworthyBean said above.

Thanks for the advice/help chaps :)

I could be wrong but I would have thought that there would only be a risk if the phone has been rooted, and therefore access made to the os. Otherwise I'd imagine it's too secure, unless you plug it into a pc.

I normally Root my phone for adblockers, but with this phone I didn't as I use Blokada.

Sounds more like your friend /contact is compromised, and it's just a phishing message sent without your friends knowledge.
Yes, his facebook was hacked. A few messages were sent out, and stupidly, I clicked it.
